Narrative annotation: This book is about two boys who are pen pals. One boy is from India, the other is from America. Through reading each other’s letters, they learn how they are both different and similar.

Selected Purpose: I want to show students that even though people are from different places, they are also the same. Something I would do in the beginning of the year is to pair up students in the class. They can make a list and see how they are alike and different at the same time. This is a good way to introduce students to each other and learn from their peers.

Illustrations: Colorful and vivid drawings so emphasize the difference between where the characters live.
